Alfred "Duckhead" Cormier

 Alfred “Duckhead” Cormier was born on May 7th, 1931 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He started playing music at 16 years old and played guitar for many years. During his career he played with an impressive list of distinguished Cajun musicians such as Nathan Abshire, Lawrence Walker, J. B. Fusilier, Doris Matte, Jo-El Sonnier, Deama Granger, Earl Demary, and others. He also played on the recordings of musicians such as Iry Lejuene, Phil Menard, Aldus Roger, Bobby Leger, Sidney Brown, Rufus Thibodeaux, “Man” Abshire, Marc Savoy, Joe Bonsall, Doc Guidry and others. Perhaps he was best known for being in the group headed by legendary accordion player Iry Lejuene that also consisted of himself on guitar, Wilson Granger on fiddle and Robert Bertrand on drums. Alfred was one of the more accomplished Cajun guitarist to hail from Lake Charles. He appeared on many early Cajun music recordings from the Southwest Louisiana region. He was a fixture in the Cajun music scene in the Lake Area for many years. Composed by Neal P Granger
